I have found self-portraiture to be an incredibly powerful and transformative tool for self-discovery and expression.
One of the key reasons why I believe self-portraiture is so important is that it allows me to explore and express innermost thoughts and emotions in a safe and creative way.
By becoming both the subject and the creator of my portraits, I can transform, uncover and delve deeper into my own identity and explore different facets of self that I may not have been aware of before.
When I take my own portraits it is almost like I can split myself into two parts (the photographer and the subject) and we fight each other to control the outcome. Despite having complete control over the situation I find this creative environment has been a battle ground for self discovery, pushing through personal limitations and challenging myself creatively.
I seek to explore themes of identity, femininity, and romanticism, using colour, costume and composition to create a dreamlike and otherworldly atmosphere.
